Texas initiated a state-funded border wall program aiming to build a wall along 805 miles of the Texas-Mexico border. The project was intended to enhance border security with a 30-foot high wall costing about $28 million per mile. However, only 8% of the planned wall has been completed, covering 65 miles, with a total expenditure of over $3 billion. The program faced challenges including landowner resistance and lack of eminent domain authority, resulting in fragmented wall segments mostly in rural areas. The state legislature has now defunded the project, and no new construction projects will begin, leaving the future of the wall uncertain.
