The objective of the Financial Sector Implementation Assistance Project is to provide implementation assistance to Thailand in improving the structure, resiliency, and soundness of the financial sector, and to address the immediate need to resolve finance companies which have been suspended during the recent economic crisis. The project's components are two. The first, technical assistance for financial sector restructuring, will (1) strengthen financial institution resolution processes; and (2) improve the capacity to identify future problem financial institutions in an appropriate timeframe and raising supervisory standards. The second, institution building, will focus on ( 1) rationalizing the supervisory regime; (2) strengthening market discipline; (3) improving the bankruptcy and collateral foreclosure processes; and (4) implementing financial infrastructure and institutional changes. Project management includes providing consulting services for studies and equipment.
