Thacker Pass Lithium Mining Electrification Project

The Thacker Pass project in Nevada is a major lithium mining operation aiming to produce 40,000 metric tonnes of lithium carbonate annually, sufficient to supply batteries for approximately 800,000 electric vehicles per year. ABB has been chosen by Lithium Americas as the electrification partner to implement a wide-ranging suite of electrification and automation technologies, including switchgear, motor control centres, variable speed drives, auxiliary power distribution packages, and a site-wide power management system integrated within specialised electrical buildings. The project aims to establish a domestic US lithium supply chain with advanced sustainability and efficiency measures from inception, serving as a blueprint for sustainable mining operations.
