Description | Thai National Power (TNP) developed a 110 MW gas-fired combined cycle cogeneration plant in the Siam Eastern Industrial Park in Rayong Province. The plant was to sell 90 MW to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under a 25-year power purchase agreement. The remaining 20 MW was to supply industrial users in Siam Eastern Industrial Park. TNP was a 100% subsidiary of National Power (Thailand), which in turn was a 100% subsidiary of National Power (UK). In November 1999, when National Power announced the split of its international and domestic operations, transferring ownership of TNP to International Power. The total project cost was $89 million, financed entirely by National Power. The plant was built by a consortium led by Electrowatt Engineering and Sumitomo. The plant went into commercial operation in October 2000. In September 2005, TNP announced it would undertake a 23 MW expansion at a cost of 900 million baht (US$22 million). Mitsubishi Heavy Industries won the equipment contract, and the expansion was expected to enter operation in October 2006.
