Thai Power Supply Co Ltd has developed a 47.4-MW waste-to energy power plant at Phakam Sarakham, Cha Choeng Sao. This first phase of the project has an estimated cost of $47.4 million ($1.0 million/MW). The plant, currently in operation, uses rice husks and wood chips as fuel and sells 36-megawatts of power to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) under the Small Power Producer (SPP) Program. The PPA was signed on August 13, 1993, and the project company has been selling power to EGAT as of June 21, 1996. The Thai Power Supply Co Ltd is also expanding capacity by a 3-MW power plant at an estimated cost of $3.0 million ($1.0 million/MW). The PPA to sell power for the expansion was signed on February 2, 1997 and was expected to go into effect on October 1, 1998. For both PPAs, EGAT signed a "non-firm" contract with the project company. Nominal levelized tariffs are set at 1.29bht/KWh. The estimated project cost is $50.4 million ($1.0 million per MW).
