Description | The Thane-Borivali Twin Tunnel Project is a double-decker corridor tunnel connecting Thane and Borivali in Maharashtra, India. It will reduce the travel distance from 23 km to approximately 12 km and cut travel time from 2-5 hours to 15 minutes. The tunnel passes under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park using new technology to protect the park's biodiversity. It will be the longest and deepest urban tunnel in India, with each tunnel having three lanes (two effective lanes and one emergency lane). The tunnels will feature advanced firefighting, ventilation, and signage systems. |
