Description

Description

"What is the price of sugar, this delicious poison? Beginning with sequences set in the present day, this historical investigation reveals a global system still fueled by the exploitation of land and people that is rooted in its original sin: slavery. ""The Curse of Sugar"" is a Prime-Time 2x52' TV documentary series, directed by French director Mathilde Damoisel co-produced by Hauteville Productions (France), Wonder Maria Filmes (Portugal), Inicia Films (Spain), intended for worldwide distribution with the collaboration of our international sales agent, ARTE Distribution. The series is coproduced with ARTE France, and has confirmed funding from RTP2 (Portugal), Canal+ Polska, TV Spark (Slovakia), Radio-Canada, Canal Curta! (Brazil) and TV Unam (Mexico), while raising interest from many other TV broadcasters. Distribution strategy will target different audiences worldwide via public broadcasters, but also via documentary oriented online platforms and festivals. The project has been selected for the Sunny side of the doc 2024, History pitch, and chosen by ARTE France as one of their highlighted projects at EBU/UER 2024 spring edition. In addition to the original 2x52’ format, the film will have a 52’ edit for the international market and a feature length version for international festival dissemination. Alongside this ambitious handcrafted TV distribution strategy and thanks to our selection at the FIPADOC Impact Lab (Jan. ’24), we are developing a worldwide campaign to raise public awareness on the dark side of sugar, like the deplorable working conditions in the sugar industry, among an audience mainly made up of consumers, especially the younger generations, large consumers of sugar as well as major targets of the sugar industries, who are unaware of what is hidden behind this everyday commodity."
