Description
Description | The Death of a Bee is a documentary which follows a Norwegian filmmaker as he becomes entangled with the lives of bees at his farm, reindeer on the high mountains and puffins at the ocean's edge. This is a story about the relations between the small and the big, about love, connection, strength and vulnerability. It is a story about unity and wholeness that acknowledges all co-inhabitants of this planet, a reminder of nature’s importance and a warning about its decline. The film is an embodied cinematic experience with an emotional and meditative narrative, and an explicit nature conservation perspective. It appeals to our senses and emotions, and through them to our intellect. Our artistic approach is a creative hybrid that combines the qualities of the art of natural world storytelling with elements of current affairs investigative documentaries. The Death of a Bee opens for a sustained and continued practice of careful attention, which reveals what the camera often refrains from showing. The project has a distinct transnational perspective and builds on the engagement of the emerging environmental movement. By focusing on the relationship between humans, nature and biodiversity loss in Norway as a case study, it invites the viewers to reflect on global environmental degradation, or else what has been called an existential threat to all life on this planet. While climate crisis has been the subject of several documentaries, biodiversity loss has received much less attention. This film points to the connections between these two threats and the need to address them simultaneously. The documentary’s delivery platform is TV, and the shooting languages are English and Norwegian. The involved parties are highly experienced production companies and public broadcasters from three European countries. Our aim is aim is to achieve worldwide distribution. |
