Description

Description

The Dryline is a leisure-oriented storm barrier designed to protect New York City from flooding, particularly following the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. It is envisioned as a continuous 10 mile (16 km) protective system around Manhattan, incorporating leisure elements such as active learning spaces, community and cultural spaces, raised cycle paths, parks, plazas, harbour bath swimming, and a reverse aquarium. The main defensive feature is a protective wall with flip down panels that deploy automatically during storm warnings, also serving as a public art space. The project is divided into different sections or zones, each designed in conjunction with local communities and stakeholders.
