Description
Description | The objective of the Jean Monnet project “The European Union’s Role in Security and Global Affairs (EURISGA)” is to advance research-based, innovative and impactful education formats, workshop, lectures, knowledge exchange and dissemination events that foster knowledge, skills, policy-oriented insights and exchanges as well as public engagement related to the EU’s ever complex, ambitious and challenging role in security and global affairs. The proposed Jean Monnet Chair project consists of a total of 12 carefully designed and mutually reinforcing activities, all leading to four sustainable outputs, like podcasts, online microcredential course, a dedicated project portal as well as open access teaching materials and research outputs. The activities range from 4 dedicated courses at BA and MA levels (resulting in curriculum innovation and the creation of an entirely new Model EU simulate course) to annual lectures and high-level events for the broader public, teaching workshops and a Hague-Brussels Forum for policy-makers. All activities and outputs address core aspects of the EU’s past, present and future role in core security and global affairs policy fields from a ‘glocal’ (i.e. local, national, regional and global) perspective. EURISGA is a response to a needs analysis of 10 needs and will benefit per year: at least 255 students at BA and MA levels, 20 Dutch and 40 EU and European policy-makers, at least 500-600 members of the public and at least 20 dedicated partners in and outside the EU. In addition, EURISGA will benefit its host institutions and its staff members well as Leiden University more generally to meet their strategic objective of a dedicated education, research policy-impact hub on the topic of the EU's role in security and global affairs. The project will serve as a catalyst, aggregrator and platform for further long-term impact in advancing education, partnerships and policy exchange at a crucial moment for European and global security. |
