Description
Description | The project will establish a consortium of 6 organizations working with people with disabilities from 6 European countries. These organizations will come together for 4 main events, and several other campaigns and activities, with the main aim of boosting civic and democratic participation of persons with disabilities on the local, regional, national and EU level. The general objective of “The Future is Ours: Persons with Disabilities Rebuild Democracy” project is to promote persons with disabilities and their representative associations’ participation in and contribution to the democratic and civic life of the Union by making known and publicly exchanging their views in policies related to disability and inclusion. Through the project, a transnational/European network of defenders of rights of persons with disabilities will be established in line with the Strategy to strengthen the application of the Chater of Fundamental Rights of the EU. The network will gather a diverse range of people from different backgrounds (including decision-makers on all levels, experts, NGO’s, researchers, persons with disabilities, etc.) in activities directly linked to EU policies, giving them an opportunity to actively participate in the EU policymaking process and collaborate on achieving a greater inclusion and civic participation of persons with disabilities all over Europe. The project will gather civil society organisations and other stakeholders active at local, regional, national and transnational level in the field of inclusion of persons with disabilities (with a specific focus on persons with Down syndrome) in order to encourage civic and democratic participation of persons with disabilities, and to sustain and further develop open, rights-based, democratic, equal and inclusive societies based on the rule of law. The network will also focus on mainstreaming the EU disability strategy, and the Strategy to strengthen the application of the CFREU. |
