Description
Description | The Great Green Wall is an ambitious ecological restoration initiative in Africa, aiming to create a vegetative belt 8,000 kilometers long and 15 kilometers wide to halt desertification. Launched by the African Union in 2007 across 11 countries, the project aims to restore 100 million hectares of degraded lands, create 10 million green jobs, and capture 250 million tons of CO2 by 2030. It involves planting millions of trees, sustainable agriculture, water management, and innovative techniques to retain water in arid zones. Despite progress, the project faces challenges such as insufficient funding, low seedling survival rates, insecurity, and slow progress. |
