Description | The Great Nicobar Project is a proposed ₹72,000-crore mega-infrastructure initiative at the southern tip of India, aiming to develop Great Nicobar Island into a global transhipment and economic hub. The project includes an International Container Transhipment Terminal at Galathea Bay, a greenfield international airport with a 3,300-metre runway, a 450 MVA gas-solar power plant, and a township planned for up to 650,000 people. Construction works involve breakwaters, berths, dredging, reclamation, terminal building, runway, apron, taxiway, cargo, and other facilities. Demolition works will be minimal and decided after an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). |
