Description

Description

The North Hastings Community Centre, built in the 1970s, requires critical upgrades to ensure safety, accessibility, and sustainability. The current ammonia-based refrigeration system poses significant safety risks due to the hazardous nature of ammonia, which requires strict safety protocols and on-site staff. We propose upgrading to the Thermalcare refrigeration system, which is far safer and offers up to a 41% reduction in energy costs. Additionally, we plan to install a universal washroom addressing the lack of accessible facilities in the arena. This project aims to encourage active lifestyles for youth, adults, and individuals with disabilities by improving access to community spaces. With no other arenas in the municipalities which surround us, families would face significant barriers to access in our region. Additionally the lower-than-average household income and high poverty rate underscores the need for affordable, accessible recreational facilities in our community.
