Description

Description

The Jean Monnet Chair (JMC) in EU Digital Policies (DIGIT-EU) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens enhances understanding of the EU’s role in the digital age. Hosted at the Department of Informatics & Telecommunications, it adopts an interdisciplinary approach combining policy research, computer science, telecommunications, technology economics, and digital governance. It examines how emerging technologies align with EU values like democracy, rule of law, and fundamental rights. DIGIT-EU’s approach includes four main components: teaching, research, dissemination, and sustainability. Teaching includes five modules: “European Digital Governance and Regulation,” “Data Protection, Privacy, and Cybersecurity in the EU,” “Competition and Big Tech Regulation in Europe,” “Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies in EU Policy,” and “The Digital Economy, Sovereignty, and Sustainability in the EU”. Each module integrates legal, economic, technological, and social perspectives. In parallel, the research activities focus on practical implications of the EU’s regulatory instruments, while an extensive dissemination plan engages a broad audience of citizens, academics, policymakers, and industry stakeholders through seminars, workshops, roundtables, newsletters, podcasts, and a concluding conference. To ensure long-term impact, DIGIT-EU plans to embed its outcomes into existing academic curricula and maintain collaboration with stakeholders beyond the project’s duration. By focusing on EU digital market governance, DIGIT-EU provides a platform for multidimensional engagement among scholars, researchers, students, and industry experts in AI, communication networks, and security systems, offering insights and resources on EU digital policies.
