Description

Description

The Long Night (TLN) is a condensed, modular replayable RPG about a young medical student returning to his small village to treat an outbreak of plague. Torn between folklore, his faith, and the science of the time, he must attempt to save his family, while contending with witch hunters, distrustful locals, and seemingly supernatural events. It is a game about regional power struggles and small town strife, pandemics and prejudice, and overcoming the distrust that can fester if unattended. The game takes place in a somewhat realistic depiction of Europe’s “little ice age,” 1500 CE, in a rural village beset by plague. The setting is inspired by Slavic and Scandinavian culture, both in terms of local and folklore and the era represents a transition period between medieval and modern times, where inventions, weird theories, and the Spanish Inquisition lived side-by-side. An era where power was divided between the monarchs, the church, and the general population just trying to survive. The game reflects these conflicts through the lens of a small village undergoing crisis. You are Petar, a young man who has abandoned his medical studies to return home and investigate a strange and deadly malady, wreaking havoc on your home and family. As your investigation progresses, increasingly unnatural events cause you to question everything you know about the world around you and the science you have learned. Confronted by strange creatures, corrupted individuals, and a distrustful population, you must attempt to find the source of the plague and save your village.
