The project led by Énercycle consists to building of a new facility for biomethanization and composting of organic waste from residential collection as well as from institutions, businesses and industries in the area. Biogas extracted and compost produced will be respectively be injected into the Énergir network and distributed to citizens, municipalities and farmers for agriculture use of the region’s farmland. The facility will process 36,700 tonnes of organic matter annually, or 15,600 tonnes of food waste and 21,100 tonnes of green waste. It is estimated that the installation will produce 1.6 m3 of biogas and 12,000 tonnes of compost per year. The project anticipate a reduction of 9,000 tonnes per year in greenhouse gas emissions of by avoiding the landfilling of organic matter and by replacing fossil fuels with the biomethane produced.
