The Metals Company's Pacific Deep-Sea Mining Project

The Metals Company (TMC) has submitted an exploration licence application for deep-sea mining covering approximately 122,000 square kilometres of seafloor in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, known as USA B. The project aims to extract polymetallic nodules containing nickel, cobalt, manganese, and copper, which are critical for energy infrastructure, defense manufacturing, and green technology supply chains. The application has been formally certified by NOAA, marking the start of the regulatory review process including environmental impact assessments and public consultations before a final licence decision.
