Description
Description | The Network, created by the Presidents of the Supreme Judicial Courts of the European Union with the financial support of the European Commission, brings together Presidents and their respective Supreme Judicial Courts from 32 different countries (all EU Member States as well as Liechtenstein, Norway, United Kingdom, Albania, and Montenegro). The purpose of the Network is to promote exchange of views and experience on matters concerning the case law as well as organisation and functioning of the Supreme Judicial in the performance of their judicial and/or advisory functions. For this end the Network provides the Presidents of Supreme Judicial Courts an opportunity to meet and exchange experiences thereby also aiming to strengthen cooperation and to build trust between the Presidents and their respective Supreme Courts. In addition to the regular in-person meetings of Presidents of Supreme Judicial Courts, the Comparative Law Working Group bringing together representatives from the Supreme Courts of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom has been set up to identify the Supreme Courts' interpretation of terms and concepts derived from European law and to exchange information as well as research on national case law. The Network also operates an annual Exchange Programme that allows judges of Supreme Judicial Courts to benefit from trainings with a European dimension and promotes mutual learning between colleagues with similar tasks and responsibilities. A Common Portal of Case Law, developed by the Network and available on the website of the Network, improves access to the case law of Supreme Judicial Courts. The Network aims to be a reliable partner to the European Commission in questions concerning the rule of law and the independence of judiciary. |
