The Other 300 tells the untold saga of the Sacred Band, an army made up of 150 pairs of male lovers, whose story has only recently been uncovered. This elite Greek army was formed by the city of Thebes in 379 BCE to end Spartan domination. Fighting for four decades undefeated, it was annihilated by Philip of Macedon and his son Alexander in the Battle of Chaeronea. Buried on the battlefield where they fell, the 300 were forgotten by history, until a Greek archaeologist called Panagiotis Stamatakis discovered the mass grave in 1880. The grave was covered up and the Sacred Band forgotten, leading some historians to claim that the Sacred Band never existed. It was only in 2019 that a missing skeleton was found in the basement of an Athens Museum, as well as the Greek archaeologist’s excavation logs with detailed drawings of the mass grave: it depicted an army of 300 lovers lying in pairs, their arms linked together. A team of international archaeologists from the United States, France and Greece, is re-examining the newly uncovered evidence, sharing unprecedented insight into the story of the Sacred Band. The film is a Greek-Austrian-Italian coproduction, distributed by Antenna Studios, the leading producer and global distributor of Greek content and part of Antenna Group, the 3rd largest media group in Europe operating TV channels and SVOD platforms across 12 Central and Eastern European markets. Through the joint efforts of the producers and the film's sales agent, seven broadcasters have so far secured confirmed participation from Greece, Austria, Germany-France, Australia, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Hungary. The film is produced by a team with an innovative strategy to create a high quality creative documentary that will appeal to international broadcasters, streamers and educators, supported by innovative promotion strategies which are carried out in partnership with international broadcasters and educational institutions.
