The Overloop Alternative Project

An alternative proposal to the Tribune Chowk flyover called 'The Overloop' has been put forward by city-based architects and urban planners Pearl Ahluwalia and Aashray Ahuja of URap. The Overloop is an elevated rotary over the existing Tribune Chowk designed to segregate traffic across two levels, enabling continuous signal-free movement and increasing traffic capacity by nearly 50%. It requires the felling of only 65 trees compared to 700 in the current flyover plan. The proposal was presented to the UT Administration in 2019 and was shortlisted among two competing designs but was not awarded the tender.
