Description | The Pastoria Solar Project is a 105-megawatt solar energy project located near the State Water Project’s Edmonston Pumping Plant in Kern County, California. It is the biggest renewable energy project contracted by the California Department of Water Resources and will help offset the energy needed to power the pumping plant. The project is operated by Houston-based energy company Calpine and is strategically co-located with solar energy generation, battery storage, and a natural gas plant to deliver grid reliability services. The battery storage facility, named the Pastoria Power Bank, complements the solar park by storing energy for later use during peak demand, under a 15-year power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric Company. |
