The preparation and implementation of the 8th Cycle of EU Youth Dialogue in Finland in 2021

"The EU Youth Dialogue is at its 8th Cycle which will finish at the end of 2021. During this year we have been analyzing the focus group interviews (completed at the end of 2020) and during the Spring we have been promoting the European survey to young people in Finland in many different ways. We have also been promoting the Youth Goal #9 (Space and Opportunities for all) as such and have been organising many events and campaigns related to encouraging youth participation in general. We feel it is very important to strengthen citizenship competencies of young people as well as promoting the EU values and democracy to them. We have had a very active National Working Group which has met monthly, and we have trained participants of the EU Presidency meetings very carefully. When the results of the EU consultation come out, we aim at implementing and promoting them and later in the year also evaluating the results. We hope that somehow we can identify those Finnish young people who answered the consultation in order to provide feedback of the procedure for them. As a national youth council our objectives are to advocate for the well-being of young people, so anyway we will use the results of the survey in this work. The pandemia has made our work a bit more difficult as it would have been in normal circumstances, e.g. we had to cancel our biggest annual youth work event, planned for 2500 participants in May. But we have managed to find other ways of being in contact with several groups of young people and youth workers promoting the EU Youth Dialogue and we will continue to do so to promote also the outcomes and do the follow-up and dissemination of the results of the procedure."
