Description
Description | EUPacRoL develops an interdisciplinary (law, politics and policy) teaching and research Module on the rule of law, as one of the core EU values, and examines its application through a comparative lens, focusing on the Pacific region. Using the rule of law as a mobilising theme, the Module will explore its application with respect to climate change and sustainability as core challenges for the Pacific region. In particular, it will consider the European and Pacific comparative approaches to the rule of law and seek to understand how its practical application in relation to specific and timely issues of climate change accommodates regional values, ideologies, structures and cultural practices. The Module will be delivered as a blended teaching and training program, based at the ANU Centre for European Studies. It targets undergraduate and postgraduate students at ANU and universities in the Pacific region, and in particular students who otherwise do not have access to EU studies. It will be delivered through intensive lectures, interactive workshops, and specialised seminars. The program will also be opened to practitioners, policymakers, lawyers, diplomats, working professionals, researchers and civil society groups working in the region or with the region. The Module brings together a genuine international team of experts acquainted with interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary methods, comparative legal skills, practical experience and knowledge on the EU and the Pacific, and demonstrated expertise in hybrid and online teaching. The ANUCES has a proven track record of delivery of high-quality research and targeted courses for students and professionals. The Module will rely on ANUCES' extensive networks in Australia and Europe and contribute to the enhanced cooperation with the International Association of Legal Science (IALS), while expanding the ANUCES' networks and sharing EU expertise with students, experts, researchers and universities in the Pacific region. |
