Description
Description | In the last months, the Parliament and the Council agreed on the new economic governance framework, and the Commission revealed a new roadmap to boost European economic stability and growth, built on Draghi’s and Letta’s reports. Taking advantage of these and past measures, the project ECONGOVEU invites students, citizens, practitioners and policymakers to explore the politics of European economic governance. ECONGOVEU relies on the applicant’s research about economic policymaking in the European Union and promotes a deeper and more innovative understanding in teaching and research of this EU policy. We want to stimulate a broader debate about the interaction between politics and economics and between national politics and supranational politics: Our objective is to analyse, discuss and learn how European politicians balance pressures arising from the economy, national politics, and supranational politics when they design and implement the EU economic policy, which economic ideas explain its design, what explains the main cleavages characterizing this policy, what explains the outcome, timing, and direction of reforms, what explains the adoption of the country-specific recommendations, which dimensions policymakers are more likely to include in the European Semester, and what explains the use of the excessive deficit procedure. Moreover, we want to stimulate a profound and rigorous reflection on the insights about the effectiveness, fairness, and responsiveness of this policy as well as about the latest reform and its implementation, between scholars of the social sciences, the humanities and law as well as practitioners from parliaments, government, civil society, and administration at all levels of EU governance. ECONGOVEU aims to inform the public debate about economic policymaking in the European Union and to disseminate our findings to a policy community of practitioners, EU officials, the general public and civil society. |
