Description
Description | The TALIS survey provides insights into teachers’ beliefs and attitudes about teaching and their pedagogical practices. It explores different themes in participating countries: professional development, school leadership, teaching practices, school climate, appraisal and feedback, job satisfaction and teacher profiles. The last cycle introduced new sets of questions on innovation in education, as well as on equity and diversity. The Commission regards TALIS as a valuable source of data on teachers, their professional development, the learning environment and the impact teachers can have on students. The results of the TALIS survey enable the Commission to monitor progress in the follow-up to the development of the European Education Area4. Since the publication of the first TALIS report in 2008, the Commission is using those results for supporting Member States' efforts in enhancing the teaching profession and the development of indicators on inclusion, teachers and sustainability. The international Starting Strong survey for early childhood education and care (ISCED level 0) collects data on learning and well-being environments, staff and centre leaders, early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings, training and motivation of ECEC staff. Improving the quality of ECEC provisions is an important objective of the EU, as materialised in the Council Recommendation on High-Quality Early Childhood Education and Care systems5 and the Council Resolution on a strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training towards the European Education Area and beyond (2021-2030) and co-financing Member States to participate in the Starting Strong survey will be a step towards alleviating the data gap on the ECEC sector. |
