Description

Description

Thousands of whales die in mass strandings each year. Recently in Tasmania 500 whales stranded on a beach in what is known to be the largest mass stranding in Australia. Even though a large number of rescuers tried to help the whales back into the ocean more than 380 whales died on the shore. But why do whales go and kill themselves in these large numbers? This question has been raised more frequently by leading scientist. But until now no explanation has been proven. This creative documentary film is on the trail of finding the answer. And more important is that the answer might implicate severe action before an even larger numbers of whales go kill themselves, which could eventually lead to a disaster in the ecosystem of the oceans, bringing species of whales on the brink of extinction. The film will be produced by Peter Engel, Wingman Media (DK) and co-developed and co-produced by Icelandic Sagafilm represented by producer Margrét Jónsdóttir and the Norwegian production company Von Mørner represented by producer Bjarte Tveit. The film is directed by Klaus Thymann, who's drive to explore has taken him to document extreme environments around the world conducting expeditions in locations never or rarely visited. His focus is to bring back interesting and surprising stories with an environmental focus. He is passionate about the environment and holds a BSc in Environmental Science. Thymann will be strongly flanked by the renowned conceptual director Janus Metz. The film will aim at reaching a global audience with an interest in developing our planet and the human impact on nature in a sustainable way. But also, an audience that loves strong and captivating nature stories such as BLUE PLANET, OUR PLANET, BLACKFISH and MY OCTOPUS TEACHER. The project is currently in early development.
