Description
Description | Founded in 1999 by the late Dimitri Eipides, the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, is a leading International Documentary Festival in Europe, organized by the Thessaloniki Film Festival organization, which also organizes the Thessaloniki IFF for fiction feature films in November and has a rich audiovisual activity throughout the year. The TDF has become a reference point for the documentary of the wider SE European and Eastern Mediterranean region, working to meet the needs of an internationalized documentary audience. This goal has been achieved by being listed in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Documentary Feature Qualifying Festival List which includes 28 leading festivals around the world. The Festival explores the European roots of documentary and at the same time innovates by presenting filmmakers who rapidly renew the genre, while linking their work with the urgent topics of our times, other art forms and pioneer animation films, among others. Moreover, the Festival establishes and further promotes the Virtual Reality medium, becoming one of the few documentary film festivals, especially in the region, that has an international competition section. Thus, the Festival brings the audience in contact with the documentaries of the future and presents new ways for filmmakers to explore contemporary reality. The TDF’s main objectives are to maintain its position as the prominent documentary event in Greece; to strengthen its position as a top European documentary festival; to endorse its Agora Docs as the most important documentary market for the Balkans and the SE Europe area, and to expand its influence into the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean. By receiving the MEDIA support, we also receive a seal of approval for our hard work towards the support and display of European documentaries by offering to the faithful TDF audience a vast selection of contemporary documentaries, bringing diversity and universal themes into debate. |
