Thien Nam Hydropower JSC was planning the development of the 8MW Thien Nam 1; 5,6MW Thien Nam 2; 6MW Thien Nam 3 Hydropower Plants, Thien Nam 1 is located on Nam Gie stream in Binh Lu commune, other two hydropower plants are located on Nam Mu stream in Na Tam commune, Tam Duong district, Lai Chau province. The projects (19.6MW combined) were expected to generate 83.21 GWh annually, to be supplied to the grid. The projects consisted of 7 turbines of 2.8, 2.9 and 3.0MW (Francis Vertical Axis). Commissioning was expected for 2014. Construction period was 2 years, lifespan was 30 years. Electricity price was estimated at VND 877.8 per kWh ($0.0421 per kWh). The investment license was issued in November 2010 by the province. The EPC contract was expected to be signed in December 2011. The FC date was unknown, but estimated at December 2011 (signing of EPC contract). Total investment was VND 492.22 billion ($23.6 million).
