Third Urban Development Project - First Phase

The Third Urban Development Project aims to a) improve the living conditions of Conakry's urban population through the provision of basic priority services; and b) create an enabling environment for sustained programming, financing, and management of priority investments and services in major urban centers of the country. The project has three components. 1) Improvement to priority infrastructure and services in Conakry includes a) solid waste management, which will increase the level of garbage collection and limit the impact of waste production; b) neighborhood upgrading, which will support rehabilitation and maintenance operations on Conakry's secondary roads; c) primary road network, which will improve traffic at critical blockage points at Conakry. 2) Assistance to secondary cities will support the decentralization process by helping mayors to better plan for the need of their communes. 3) Institutional strengthening will provide support to operational units and improved financing of priority services, such as solid waste management and secondary road maintenance. It will also finance community outreach programs related to waste management.
