Description | HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), part of South Korea's HD Hyundai Group, plans to establish India's first greenfield shipyard by a global shipbuilder at the Thoothukudi shipbuilding cluster. The project involves an investment of ₹40,000 crore in phases and aims to build a variety of ships including very large crude carriers (VLCCs) and very large gas carriers (VLGCs). The shipyard is expected to have an annual production capacity of 3.5 million gross tonnage (GT). The project is planned to be executed largely through a wholly-owned subsidiary in India, with potential minority equity partners including State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd and the Centre’s Maritime Development Fund. |
