Description | A private consortium of CSX World Terminal Hong Kong Ltd. (formerly Sealand Orient Terminals Ltd.) and New World Infrastructure (NWI) was granted a 30-year BOT to operate four container berths and up to two dry bulk berths in November 1998. Tianjin Orient Container Terminals Co. Ltd. (TOCT) was created with a $272 mln (218.4 mln euro) planned investment to implement the project and commenced operations on January 1, 1999. The shareholder structure of the project company was changed because Dubai Ports International acquired the CSX World Terminal Hong Kong Ltd. from CSX Co in January 2005. As for 2005, NWI through its subsidiary NEW ports Management Ltd. joined with Dubai Ports International set up DP World New World Ltd. DP World New World Ltd., through its wholly owned subsidiary, DP World New World (Tianjin) Ltd. held a 49% interest in the project company, while the local authorities, Tianjin Port Holdings Co. Ltd. retained 51%. TOCT operated four container berths at Tianjin port, with total berth length of 1,136 m and water depth of 12m capable of accommodating fifth generation container vessels.
