Description

Description	China is set to build a massive railway line linking Tibet and northwestern Xinjiang, passing near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with India. The railway will run through the disputed Aksai Chin region and is expected to enhance China's ability to deploy troops and mobilise defence equipment faster to the border area. The project will establish a 5,000-km plateau rail framework centred on Lhasa by 2035, with the 2,000-km Lhasa-Hotan (Xinjiang) line forming a strategic artery linking northwestern and southwestern China. Work is expected to begin in 2025 and will be overseen by the Xinjiang-Tibet Railway Company (XTRC), a state-owned entity fully owned by the China State Railway Group.
