Description
Description | Tillandsia, the air plant that survives without soil, thriving on the air and elements around it, beautifully symbolizes the essence of this project. Like the Tillandsia, the project aims to reclaim what is overlooked, nurture resilience in the face of challenges, and regenerate meaningful connections between individuals, communities, and nature through creativity. The Tillandsia project is VTHPA 3-year initiative bringing together young people with fewer opportunities in Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania to tackle challenges like environmental degradation, youth isolation, and lack of access to sustainability education. The project focuses on reclaiming neglected spaces, building community resilience, and regenerating connections between people, culture, and the environment. Tillandsia’s journey unfolds in: Year 1 Reclaiming Sustainable Local Resources: Reclaiming and transforming marginalized community areas by turning waste into upcycled art and functional eco-infrastructure such as recycling stations, and community gardens over the project duration. Volunteers in Greece and Romania will revitalize neglected areas through eco-friendly practices and creative projects, making spaces more livable and engaging. Year 2 Art for Resilient Communities: Equipping youth with fewer opportunities with practical skills in recycling management, environmental sustainability, and collaborative art-making.Teams in Greece and Bulgaria will focus on waste management, recycling, and collaborative art-making, building skills and strengthening community ties. Year 3 Regenerative Actions: Regenerating connections between people, culture, and the environment by integrating art and cultural practices into environmental initiatives. Volunteers across the 3 communities will integrate cultural heritage into environmental initiatives, intergenerational collaboration and long-term sustainability. |
