Equality, irrespective of features such as sexual orientation and gender identity, is an EU core value. Nevertheless, many LGBT+ people face discrimination related to different aspects of life. According to various research, even though there is greater social acceptance and support for equal rights, it has not always translated into clear improvements in LGBT+ people’s lives. LGBT+ persons are among the groups most exposed to discrimination, bullying and violence in the European Union. Although the inclusion and acceptance of LGBT+ people across Europe have significantly improved over the last years, the situation in sports remained unsolved. Harassment, bullying, violence and homophobia make sport exclusive and unsafe and undermine the powerful potential of sport to contribute to personal, social and community development. Addressing the issue of homophobia in sport is thus very timely given Europe's inclusive stance on minority rights as well as the European sport system’s overall strategy of making the sport environment, and the sport experience, safe and welcoming. The main objective of the TimeOut project is the promotion of the values of freedom promoted by the EU through its Erasmus+ program and working to eradicate the stigmatization of the LGBT+ community in the field of sport. The main result of the TimeOut project is the Resource Center which includes the following: - Knowledge Hub (Surveys, Good practices, Invited talks/interviews) - Networking Hub (Mapping of relevant stakeholders, LGBT+ friendly sport network, Petition for LGBT+ inclusion in sport) - Guidance & Support Hub (Guidelines in case of harassment, Policy Recommendation) Each participating institution will contribute on different levels to the project development thanks to different perspectives, local settings and networks, and expertise.
