Description

Description

TERRASCAPE aims to improve the educational offer at the bachelor's/master's level in remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, and Cameroon. To begin with, the teaching staff will be trained in the latest technologies in the field, and these new skills will benefit the students who will be able to meet the demands of the job market in these areas. These fields are expanding rapidly but require rapid updating to keep pace with new space missions, new sensor developments and improvements in artificial intelligence algorithms that enable the Earth's environment with global climate change to be monitored in near-real time. To achieve this, our project will rely on 3 European research/teaching groups: the 1st is University of Toulouse, whose expertise in RS/GIS is internationally recognised in climate change, natural hazard and environmental expertises; the 2nd one, INRAE in Bordeaux (France), is also internationally recognised for its expertise in agriculture, RS and forestry; and, to complete the environmental approach and the associated risks, we have integrated the University of Cantabria (Spain), which specializes in water management and hydrological systems through RS and geomatics. There are 7 African universities specialized in RS/GIS and risk management which will benefit from this innovative training and support for License/Master's courses specializing in coastal risks, agriculture, soil erosion and agroforestry as well as climate change. In terms of entrepreneurship, the project draws on the experience of the “Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie Union Européenne” (AUF-UE). A major emphasis will be placed on entrepreneurship in the field of remote sensing by setting up dedicated training courses and introducing dedicated entrepreneurship modules into education programmes.
