Description

Description

Together Against Online Hate Speech (TAOH) tackles the impact of hate speech in online public spaces by empowering civil society organisations, media, law enforcement, public authorities and individuals to address polarisation and create safer, more inclusive digital spaces. The main goal is to use AI-driven data collection and analysis alongside trainings to strengthen the resilience of civil society, media and authorities in reducing hate speech, particularly targeting ethnic minorities, women, gender-diverse and LGBTQ+ individuals. Targets of hate speech will benefit from more accessible resources for support and offline spaces. Initially focused on the Netherlands, Germany and Spain, TAOH’s methods will be replicable across the EU. The project has four phases: 1) The University of Amsterdam leads the categorisation of hate speech and the development of AI models in Dutch, German and Spanish, using the Phoenix tool to identify hate speech patterns. Facilitated pop-up art spaces will be held for the public to process the impacts of hate speech. 2) The classified social media data will be visualised in a user-friendly dashboard, enabling 9-15 CSOs/media outlets to monitor hate speech and the effectiveness of their response. 30 representatives from law enforcement and public authorities will benefit from this analysis and participate in webinars to explore joint actions. 3) Tailored training will be delivered to 10 staff members of CSOs/media outlets to enhance their ability to tackle hate speech and support targets, followed by mentoring to counter at least 300 spreaders, reaching up to 15,000 individuals. 4) An audiovisual public awareness campaign reaching 300,000-500,000 social media users, which will include artwork produced in the art spaces. TAOH aligns with CERV’s goals by enhancing cross-sector collaboration and raising awareness of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. Gender and non-discrimination mainstreaming informs all aspects of the project’s design.
