Description

Tokyo Cement Company developed the 10MW Biomass plant at Trincomalee City, Trincomalee District, Eastern Province. The project was to be fed by 70% paddy husk, 15% Gliricidia sepium fuel wood, 15% sawdust and 0-1% coconut shells. Total output was expected to be 7.2GWh annually. Tokyo Cement Company was a joint-venture between St. Anthony's Consolidated and Mitsui Mining, incorporated in 1982. In March 2008 the project signed a PPA with Ceylon Electricity Board. In June 2008 it received approval of the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. In September 2008 the project was commissioned. The steam turbine generator was purchased in September 2005. The operational life of the plant is 25 years. The project was to consist of a water tube boiler by Thermal Systems (India) and a turbo generator from Toyodenki (Japan). Total project cost was Rs. 650 million (US$5.05 million).
