Thirty kilometers of expressway are now in operation, including the section from Tokyo to Haneda airport, which will connect with the Project, and an additional eighty kilometers, including the Project are presently under construction or planned. The project is a 12.8 kilometer four-lane elevated toll expressway extending from a point near the Tokyo International Airport to Yokohama. For most of its length, the project will be built on piers as an elevated structure over an existing urban street. In addition to the construction of the elevated superstructure, the work will include the provision of necessary ramps, toll facilities and traffic control and lighting facilities. The erection of the piers will involve relocation of utilities in the existing street.
