Description
Description | The 66MW Tom Burke photovoltaic plant reached financial closure, as Enel began construction in March 2015. This BOO project worth of US$87.7 million would entail the development of solar pv power plant, located in Limpopo Province. It was a part of Window 3 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) by Department of Energy (DoE). The project was owned wholly owned by Enel Green Energy. The details on the debt financing is not publicly available yet and will be updated soon. Once fully operational, this would generate up to 122 GWh per year once up and running. This output would be equivalent to the energy needs of around 38 thousand South African households and allows to avoid the emission of over 111 thousand tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. The energy generated by this new wind farm would be sold to the South African utility Eskom through a 20-year power supply agreement. http://africabusinesscommunities.com/news/enel-green-power-works-begin-on-three-new-plants-in-south-africa.html Cost of the project calculated based on the article below. 66(MW)/148.5(MW) x 197.3 (US$ million) = 87.7 (US$ million) Italian energy company TerniEnergia has signed a deal with an unnamed utility firm to develop two solar plants in South Africa for US$197.3mn solarpanel-AchimRaschka-wikimediaThe two plants will have a combined capacity of 148.5MW. The first 82.5MW plant would be installed in Paleisheuwel, Western Cape, while the second 66MW plant would be built at Tom Burke. According to the agreement, the Italian company’s subsidiary TerniaEnergy Projects will carry out all engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) activities as well as operations and maintenance (O&M). Panel and inverter supplies are also included in the contract. However, the deal is subject to approval by the European utility company and the South Africa |
