Topaz Park Artificial Turf Field Project

The project will realign and replace the existing turf field and Topaz Park and add an artificial turf practice field. The new full size playing field and additional mini-field will increase the overall capacity and quality of play for field sport users. The project includes the installation of permanent spectator bleachers, covered shelters for players and amenities, all connected by accessible pedestrian routes. A recent condition and risk assessment of the existing artificial turf field revealed that the field was nearing end of life and is developing safety issues. At the same time frame, a community engagement process was undertaken as part of the long-term renewal plan for Topaz Park. Through this process residents and stakeholders clearly affirmed the importance of replacing this valued park amenity. The project will increase the number of users at the field by providing more space and improve the user experience. Topaz Park is an important component of Victoria’s park system providing numerous sports and recreation opportunities. The project works will include: - development of a full-size artificial turf soccer field, with markings for two small fields and a ball diamond overlain on the field; - development of one artificial turf practice field; - off-field storage, players shelters, dugouts, backstop, goals, and bleachers; - accessible pedestrian pathways and ball control fencing; - field drainage and storm sewer connections; - LED sports field lighting system including pre-ducting for future expansion of the lighting system; - protection for the adjacent row of Cottonwood trees by installing root barrier; - support amenities including hydration station (water fountain) and bicycle racks; - sustainable demolition, reuse, and disposal of the existing artificial turf field; and, - related works.
