Toronto Convention Centre on Lake Ontario

proposed

Premier Doug Ford proposed building a massive new Toronto convention centre on Lake Ontario, potentially using infill to extend the shoreline. The proposed centre would be two million square feet, almost five times the size of the current Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Experts say it is technically feasible but would take decades, cost several billion dollars, and cause significant disruption downtown. The project might involve creating new land using infill, similar to historical shoreline expansions in Toronto, and would require complex engineering such as cofferdams and soil compaction.
