Description
Description | The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is currently undertaking a strategic fleet modernization initiative to improve the reliability and availability of their bus fleet through the purchase of new buses and the rehabilitation of the existing fleet through the establishment of a preventative maintenance program. Under this project, the TTC will purchase a total of 1,043 buses across three technologies: clean-diesel, hybrid and battery-electric. The TTC will procure 60 battery-electric buses, 20 each from three suppliers, to conduct a pilot project relating to the testing and evaluation of battery electric bus technologies in revenue service. The goal of the pilot is to allow the TTC, and its partners including the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC) to gain experience and a better understanding of available battery electric bus (BEB) technology, determine whether BEBs can be successfully integrated into TTC operations, and to develop bus specifications for future green bus procurements. |
