Description | Through this project, the Town of Antigonish will create an active transportation corridor that will act as the spine of the active transportation network for the Town of Antigonish and connect to a greater active transportation network in the surrounding County of Antigonish. The project involves a series of active transportation infrastructure pieces that connect to form two kilometres of active transportation spine; the project locations and type of facilities will be built to meet all ages and abilities standards. The projects are all considered reconstruction on developed land (aside from the 2 bridges) and include: Location Section A: West Street (connecting Highway 104 and James Street to St. Ninian Street) Facilities in this location will include an asphalt multi-use pathway (235m) and a raised bi-directional bicycle facility (400m) separated from vehicular traffic using pre-cast curbs. Location Section B: St. Ninian Street (connecting West Street to Church Street) Facilities in this location will include a multi-use pathway (180m), and a raised bi-directional bicycle facility with shared sidewalk (525m) separated from vehicular traffic using pre-cast curbs. Location Section C: Off-road section through Columbus Field (connecting Church Street to St. Andrews Street) Facilities in this location will include a multi-use pathway (825m) and active transportation bridge (40m). Location Section D: Main Street (connecting St. Andrew Street to Adam Street) Facilities in this location will include a multi-use pathway (55m), shared sidewalk (70m) and an active transportation bridge (50m) which connects with existing AT infrastructure in the town. |
