Description
Description | The project objective is to decommission and reclaim the landfill of the Town of Battleford, non-compliant with the best management practices for landfill construction. Landfill has a surface area of 24.413 hectares surface area of the cells to be decommissioned. Landfill is currently closed and ready for decommissioning. Environmental Site Assessment Level II and the Corrective Action Plan have been already completed; therefore, the scope of the project includes completing and implementing a Decommissioning and Reclamation plan that is acceptable to the Ministry of Environment’s Landfill Section. Decommissioning and Reclamation activities include the design and construction of the final engineered cover, storm water management, removal of concrete, clean wood piles, installation of monitoring wells, and reclamation activities to ensure it is in conformance with the surrounding lands and the future intended use. Reclaimed landfill will be owned by Town of Battleford with the intended use of pastureland. Decommissioning and reclamation of the proposed landfill will attenuate the generation of leachate which in turn increases capacity to reduce soil pollutants in line with the Environmental Quality Outcomes of the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. |
