Description

Description

The Sunbeam Creek Fitness Trail follows the scenic Sunbeam Creek through the heart of Indian Head, from North Railway Street to the Agriculture Canada Research Farm. The 2 kilometer, aggregate pathway is used for walking, running or cycling. The proposed project would involve paving the trail to make it more accessible, adding additional signage, installation of lighting to make the trail safer and extend its useable hours. Prior to the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream being announced, there was a commitment to pave four blocks of walking trail to improve safety and walkability for all ages. With the arrival of COVID-19, the decision was made to make the trail 8 feet wide instead of 6 feet wide to allow for physical distancing. This project was a resounding success and the trail has seen a tremendous increase in usage including walking, bikes, roller blades and skate boards. Residents have taken notice of the improvements and have requested continuation with paving as well as adding lighting.
