Town of Kamsack - Landfill Decommissioning and Reclamation

The Landfill Decommissioning and Reclamation Project is being undertaken to decommission and reclaim the existing approximately 30,500 m2 landfill site, which includes both a Waste Disposal Grounds (WDG) as well as the Construction and Demolition Materials Landfill (C&D), that is currently in use as required by current legislation. Once the current landfill is decommissioned appropriately, including a non-permeable cap, a grading plan to promote long-term drainage, a vegetation cover, and a post-decommissioning environmental monitoring program to assess vegetation as well as surface and groundwater, the municipality will ensure the site returns to a natural state through the reclamation process. Once the landfill reclamation work has been completed, the municipality will then undertake the implementation of a Transfer Station to ensure residents have the ability to responsibly dispose of garbage, and other forms of waste, as required by regulations and legislation.
