Description
Description | The Town of Kentville Complete Active Transportation Network Project will implement the recommendations in the Kentville Moves Active Transportation Plan. The goal of the Plan is to increase and enhance active transportation (AT) as part of everyday life for residents and visitors. By doing so, Kentville hopes to create a healthier, more accessible, and more environmentally sustainable community. This project supports the build of 21 infrastructure projects that will complete the Town’s minimum grid for cyclists and pedestrians in the downtown core. In addition, the project will build the feeder routes into Town, creating the links to the Nova Scotia Blue Route (the provincial cycling network). The project includes 21km+ of active transportation infrastructure and is a leading example of making connections between AT and accessibility, as the project is tied to the Town’s Accessibility Plan. The project includes: Regional AT Route Improvements (5.3) Trailway road crossing: Separated multi-use pathway Trailway through Downtown: Multi-use path 830m Downtown AT Network (5.4) Main Street signed bike route Leverette Avenue signed bike route New Multi-Use Pathway to Miners Marsh Trail 4050m North End AT Network (5.5) Belcher Street conventional bike lane Route 341/359 conventional bike lane Oakdene Avenue signed conventional bike route Exhibition Street/Sanford Rd signed conventional bike route Aldershot Rail Trail multi-use pathway 5000m South End AT Network (5.6) Main Street conventional bike lane MacDonald/Highland Ave signed bike route Prospect Ave signed bike route Academy School/Elizabeth signed bike route 5650m Central AT Network (5.7) Upgrade Gorge Trails to Multi-use Pathway Glady’s Porter Dr signed bike route and crosswalk MacDonald Park/Grant/Palmeter/Alicia/Duncan signed bike route Park St./ Palmeter/Duncan multi-use pathway and crosswalks 4450m West End AT Network (5.8) Roscoe Dr./Mitchell Ave signed bike route 1200m Total: 21km + |
