Town of Wadena - Recreation Centre Roof Replacement

The project at the Wadena Recreation Centre consists of replacement of existing asphalt shingles and roofing system with new asphalt shingles with all required accessories, trim, closures, flashings and vents. The project will include removal of existing shingles, removal and replacement of sheeting/wood decking, and installation of underlayment with new asphalt shingles. Upgrades to the roof will improve the safety of facility users and extend the useful life of the building. A project of this scale will aid in stimulating both the provincial and local economy by producing direct impacts to the construction industry and secondary impacts to the local food and accommodation industry which has suffered tremendously as a result of the pandemic. Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has designated Wadena as a COVID testing centre. The recreation centre was chosen by SHA due to the configuration of the building and it’s potential for adaptability to expand testing capabilities, manage isolation of positive COVID cases in dressing rooms, serve as a field hospital on the ice surface if necessary, and house SHA staff in the mezzanine. Investment in upgrading the recreation centre will enable better utilization of the Town of Wadena’s facility spaces and support both community groups and SHA.
