Description
Description | The sanitary collection system in the Town of Watson Lake is a combination of insulated and non-insulated sewer mains and forcemains. Historical records are incomplete but according to available drawings, the sanitary sewer infrastructure largely dates back to the 1970s and 1980s. Repairs of the sanitary sewer system occurred in 2012 where sections were replaced with PVC. The water system in the Town of Watson Lake is a combination of Asbestos Cement, Ductile Iron and PVC installed in the 1970s and 1980s, and is largely uninsulated with a minimum bury 3m below the surface. The road network is primarily surfaced with either gravel or BST. The storm system is a combination of ditches and culverts alongside the roads. Generally, there is a lack of ditches or storm drains within the Town which is causing the BST to deteriorate along the shoulders of the road and ponding at intersection and driveway locations. The BST is also in poor condition at intersection due to the vehicle turning movements. Infrastructure condition was assessed and replacement was ranked in order to continue to provide safe access to drinking water, adequate firefighting flows, and capacity to convey sewage. Roads condition was also assessed and roads in poor condition and those impacted by underground utility upgrades will be reconstructed as part of this project. Phase 1 includes replacement of 924 linear meters of sanitary line, 1128 linear meters of watermain, 13 manholes, 37 water services, 35 sewer services, and 2004 linear meters of road construction. Phase 1 is the first phase of a multiphase project. Future phases will be submitted as part of future funding requests. |
